The Kalthilas live in the greenwood, the center of which never freezes. Snow is therefore something of a novelty – and the nomadic tribes often make the journey to the outskirts of the greenwood to play games with one another, the victors earning crowns woven of evergreen leaves, bones, antlers and bells. Outsiders are invited to participate, although they do so at their own risk – for this time of year is viewed by the Kalthilas as an excellent time for pranking one another, and a sense of humor and high tolerance for food, drink, dance and getting snow in one’s face are heartily recommended.
